After counting down to our anniversary by looking back on some of the hottest celebrity news from last year, the big day is finally here!
The Monday Couple’s days were numbered
We were all rooting for the Monday Couple on SBS variety show Running Man around this time last year, so we got a little nervous when Gary seemed a little too excited to have actress Lee Yeon Hee as a guest on the show.
If only we had known then that actress Song Ji Hyo would later drop the bomb that she was in a real relationship with an agency rep, breaking all of our hearts.
Gary said he was doing fine at the time, but for him to say recently that he doesn’t plan on getting married anytime soon, he must’ve been burned pretty badly.
SS501’s Kim Kyu Jong flew solo
Following in Kim Hyun Joong’s and the other SS501 members’ footsteps, Kim Kyu Jong was revving up for his solo activities last year with mini album Turn Me On, trumpeting his return with a shocking new image.
Fast forward a year, and while many top stars serving in the army are expected to return to civilian life by the end of this year, Kim Kyu Jong is just getting started, having entered the army this summer.
JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun took Thailand by storm
Meanwhile, another idol star, JYJ’s Park Yoo Chun, was solidifying his hallyu status in Thailand through an exclusive fan meeting he held for popular drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
While the event was a special time for Park Yoo Chun’s Thai fans, his fans in other parts of the world came together in a big way last year as well to help the victims in Korean hit hard by the floods last year by donating 10 million won in the singer’s name.
Coincidentally, Park Yoo Chun was in Thailand just a few days ago to close out his Asia fan meeting tour in front of a sold out crowd of 5,000 fans.
Park Yoo Chun sure loves Thailand!
IU gave back
We love to see celebrities giving back, and last year, we reported that IU celebrated her third anniversary in a meaningful way, by preparing gifts and personally delivering them to her fans at the Inkigayo recording, where she was serving as the music program’s MC.
After taking a short hiatus, IU returned to her host position last month. IU said last year, “I wish I could be the InkigayoMC when my 30th anniversary rolls around as well.” And although the young singer still has a few years until then, we think she’s well on her way.
Meanwhile, the singer took to Twitter this year to commemorate the fourth anniversary of her debut with a cute photo.
Insooni’s tax troubles surfaced
The celebrity world wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies last year, however, as legendary singer Insooni’s past tax troubles surfaced in the wake of comedian Kang Ho Dong’s tax evasion scandal.
Besides serving as a judge on Super Diva 2012 earlier this year and starring in the musical Chicago, Insooni has been lying relatively low since.
That’s a wrap for our The Stars: Then & Now series!
